The sound of the T-Bird is kind of a niche sound.įor whatever its worth, my T-Bird is a 79, so it's a little different from the current models, the neck is pretty similar in feel and taper to my Jazz Bass. My advice is to find a bass that you like the sound of, and focus on the looks secondarily. If you don't want that sound, you're going to hate that bass. If you're looking for that- I really don't know another bass that does what it does, and looks so entirely badass while doing it. If you're familiar with "the Kids In The Hall" theme ("Having an Average Weekend"), that is the quintessential sound of the Thunderbird- The T-Bird will do varying shades of that tone, and not much else. It's going to look like a T-Bird, it's going to hang like a T-Bird and most of all, it's going to SOUND like a T-Bird. I think the first thing to understand about a T-Bird is that it's going to be a T-Bird. I guess you could say my main bass these days is my Thunderbird.
